“Psalmes” is a continuation of H\u00e1t\u00ed\u00f0arn\u00f3tt, which was published in 2015. Here guitarist Andr\u00e9s Thor Gunnlaugsson, pianist Karl Olgeirsson and double bass player J\u00f3n Rafnsson work with hymns that have accompanied Icelandic church services throughout the decades, including some that are not heard that often in the country’s churches, but there will also be new hymns, such as Lj\u00f3sfa\u00f0ir by Sigur\u00f0ur Flosason.<\/p>\n

They approach the melodies quite accurately, but allow themselves new ways in chord phrases and the form is improvised, so the hymns take on a completely new feel and can thus stand completely as independent jazz compositions.<\/p>\n
