{"id":1315,"date":"2017-07-16T18:38:48","date_gmt":"2017-07-16T18:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jrmusic.is\/en\/?page_id=1315"},"modified":"2022-07-31T09:41:35","modified_gmt":"2022-07-31T09:41:35","slug":"guitar-islancio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jrmusic.is\/en\/jr-verkefni\/guitar-islancio\/","title":{"rendered":"Guitar Islancio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Guitar Islancio <\/strong>was formed in 1998 and has since then performed across the globe, headlining concerts both in Iceland as well as in Scandinavia, mainland Europe, North-America and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The trio has released five albums, which contain jazzed-up versions of Icelandic folk songs as well as music from Scandinavia, The Faroe Islands and Greenland. All five albums have been critically acclaimed and have received bestseller status in Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>The trio released the CD (2017) and LP (2022) \u201e\u00dej\u00f3\u00f0l\u00f6g \u2013 Folksongs\u201c containing songs from the trio\u00b4s previous CDs and a previously unreleased version of \u201e\u00c1 Sprengisandi \u2013 Riding over the Desert\u201c by Sigvaldi Kaldal\u00f3ns and the book \u201eIcelandic Folksongs, Arranged by Guitar Islancio\u201c saw the publication in 2019. It provides sheet music for 22 folksongs along with various lore about the songs. All the text in the book is in Icelandic, English and German.<\/p>\n<p>Guitar Islancio has performed alongside a wide variety of renowned international musicians, including France\u2019s violonist Didier Lockwood and guitarist Sylvain Luc;\u00a0 Denmark\u2019s clarinettist J\u00f8rgen Svare and violinist Kristian J\u00f8rgensen; Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius; Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine; American guitarist Larry Coryell and Canadian trumpet player Richard Gillis \u2013 who is also featured on the album \u201cIcelandic Folk\u201d (released in Canada as \u201cConnections\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>In both 2000 and 2001, the city of Reykjav\u00edk awarded Guitar Islancio with the title of \u201cOfficial Musical Group of the City\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At concerts, the trio\u2019s program is an entertaining mix of original material, Icelandic folk songs and well-known songs from various sources; jazz, pop, rock. The trio is famous for its powerful and lively performances and as such, it truly lives up to its name: the word <em>Islancio<\/em> is an Italian musical term and means with dash or with impetuousness. So playing \u201ccon islancio\u201d means playing impetuiously.
