The Book

Björn Thoroddsen, Gunnar Thórdarson and Jón Rafnsson founded the trio Guitar Islancio in 1998. They have devoted themselves to folksongs that people have played and sung through the centuries. Folksongs are an inseparable part of cultural heritage that the trio approaches attentively and respectfully. While performing the songs, the threesome improvises. Simple tunes take on a modern nuance that is at once Icelandic and international. The trio has been very popular. It has performed at concerts and music festivals in many parts of the world.

The Book contains 22 Icelandic Folk Songs. The melody is written on notes with chord symbols for guitar and piano. Lyrics are under the written melody and that shows what is the original melody and what part is the trio´s addition. Therefore the user is not bound of using the trio´s arrangement and can easily get some ideas of how to perform the song his own way. The songs poems are in the book as well as all information known about the origin of the melody. Therefore this book is a great treasure for those who are interested in folk music.

The book is in three languages.
All written text about the trio, the members and the songs are in Icelandic, English and German and so are the titles of the songs.
